Welcome speech of the founder
of Peter Maffay Foundation
A journalist once asked me during an interview: “What is the most important project of the Foundation for you?” and he expected I would answer: “Tabaluga Home in Romania, of course.” Despite my Romanian origins and my strong emotional connection with this country, my answer was different. Things are not that simple. Our shelters are so different, each with its own advantages and incentives, that it would be easier to compare apples and oranges than make such a decision.
The child carers and therapists who turn to us have a similar viewpoint, which becomes obvious in the respective application letters. For example, just a few years ago, there was a strong preference for Finca Ca’n Llompart in Mallorca – understandable, as the island is spontaneously associated with holidays, relaxation, sun… In the meantime the other shelters seem to have grown equally attractive and are none the least considered less fascinating – whether we talk about the wonderful old “Fachwerk” house located in the centre of Duderstadt, near the former German-German frontier, the youth hostel from the natural reserve near Lake Maising in Bavaria or of the old fortified church surrounded by the most beautiful views in Romania.
The initiative of Professor Hans Georg Näder made it possible to create a new landmark in Rio de Janeiro. The educational offer of TABALUGAHAUS Rio is one of the first bricks in the foundation of our project for street children – raised in Favelas – whose future opportunities will be improved by learning English and IT.
The possibility to offer traumatised children and teenagers a break from their difficult day-to-day life every year makes us feel happy and proud. The possibility to see them recharge their batteries, to see them run about playfully, frolic and often regain self-confidence is the best present for us.
All this has been and will be possible only with your help and support.
For all of this, THANK YOU with all my heart!
